— MUSCAT: Three mining concessions offered up for investment by Oman's Ministry of Energy and Minerals will be awarded within three months of the opening of the bids, the Ministry has pledged.

GP Group started looking to build its limestone activities outside of Thailand and partnered with the Al Rawas family in Oman to secure a one billion tonne reserve of very high quality limestone (about 98% calcium carbonate).

Enforcement regime. Introduction. There is a substantial mineral resource base in Oman, predominantly contained in the mountains which span 700 kilometres by 150 kilometres, and contain mineable minerals such as chromite, dolomite, zinc, limestone, gypsum, silica, copper, gold, cobalt and iron.

Oman has an abundance of dolomite, limestone, gypsum, clay, silica, ornamental stones and building materials. It is also rich in copper, gold, gabbro and limestone, industrial minerals and salt Production set to reach 147mn MT by 2023.

The company is planning for limestone quarrying and exporting. Also plans to construct two jetties with depth of 16 meters for export of limestone and dolomite.

While the law features many provisions to encourage investment in the mining sector, it also stipulates penalties for actions detrimental to the sound commercialisation of Oman's mineral wealth (Articles 59-68).

Set up to capitalise on Oman's rich mineral resource, Zawawi Minerals LLC mines and processes high quality gypsum, limestone, chrome ore and manganese ore.

With planned infrastructure upgrades such as cross-country rail links and ongoing government reforms to facilitate investment, it is becoming clear that Oman is on the cusp of unlocking its mineral export potential.
