zirconium silicate radioactivity in Oman

 — The natural radioactivity of intertidal sediment samples collected from the beaches of Oman was investigated. Using gamma ray spectrometry, the activity concentrations of 226 Ra, 232 Th and 40 K in the sediment samples were measured to have average values of 20.49 ± 3.50, 2.26 ± 0.60 and 44.83 ± 4.60 Bq kg −1 respectively.

The natural radioactivity due to presence of 238U, 232Th and 40K in zirconium minerals used in the Iranian ceramic industry, tiles and waste sludges has been measured. The measurements were made by gamma spectrometry system with a high pure germanium (HPGe) detector connected to multichannel analyzer (MCA).

Radioactivity in gems: Zircon Zircon is a zirconium silicate mineral. It is the principle source of the element zirconium (Zr)

 — In this workplace, during the filling of glaze containing zirconium silicate, it is identified the activity with increased likelihood for the worker inhaling radioactive dust (internal dose), released by raw materials in powder form.

This report provides detailed information on all the major industrial applications of zircon and zirconia, the processes involved, the management of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) residues arising from such processes, the radiological characteristics of the process materials, exposure pathways to workers and members of the ...

This paper describes the method used to perform the radiological study on a zircon sand milling plant and presents the results obtained. Internal and external doses were evaluated using radioactivity readings from sand, airborne …

 — Zircon is a naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) and as such is subject to a variety of regulations around the world. The regulatory processes and their implementation are summarized...

The radioactivity of a material is measured in becquerels per gram (Bq/g), where one becquerel is equal to 1 count (disintegration) per second. NORMs contain radionuclides of the uranium and thorium decay series and a radioactive potassium isotope.

occurring radioactive material (NORM) in industrial activities involving the exploitation of minerals. This guidance applies irrespective of whether the minerals are exploited for their radioactivity content. The zircon and zirconia industries constitute one of several industry sectors for which the radioactivity

Zirconium is a amazing grayish-white metal with unique properties that make it highly important for a wide range of industrial, commercial and scientific applications. It is the 20th most abundant element in the Earth's crust and commonly occurs in the mineral zircon (ZrSiO 4), in silicate form, and less frequently in the mineral baddeleyite ...
