 — Since 1996, diamond mines in the Northwest Territories of Canada have contributed over $26 billion to the economy. More than $18 billion from this amount has gone toward businesses in the Northwest Territories and over $8 billion to companies specifically owned by Indigenous people.

Gahcho Kué is Canada's sixth diamond mine. It is located about 170 miles northeast of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. It is a joint venture between Mountain Province Diamonds and De Beers Canada. Production began in 2016, and they propose to mine three kimberlite pipes beneath Kennady Lake.

 — Many people do not realize that Canada is the world's third largest source of diamonds, boasting diamond exports, which in 2019, totaled $2.25 billion. Famous diamonds have been found there, too, like the 552.74 carat yellow diamond found at Rio Tinto's Diavik mine in 2018.
